EXPLORING THE POLYGONAL WORLD ONE BLOCK AT A TIME

CANTERANO

Location: Canterano, Rome (Italy) — 41.9395 N, 13.0378 E

Dating: 5th–4th centuries BC

Characteristics: Canterano contains the remains of a singular polygonal terrace in a poor state of preservation. The wall is largely overgrown. Despite the vegetation, it is still clear that the polygonal blocks were once precisely fitted. The terrace makes a 90-degree turn and extends for about 10 meters on one side and only a few meter on the other.

Polygonal classification: Type II (Lugli)

Attribution: The terrace is most commonly attributed to the Aequi, a pre-Roman people.
