BELLEGRA
Location: Bellegra, Rome (Italy) — 41.8831 N, 13.0283 E
Dating: 4th–3rd centuries BC
Characteristics: High on the ridge at the center of Bellegra lies the remains of what was once an impressive polygonal tower or hilltop fortification. Overlooking the valley below, the external side is made of large, unfaced blocks with quite precise joinery. Some blocks reach over a meter long. The other sides of the structure are rough boulders stacked into place with much less precision. The rest of the village contains no other obvious polygonal walls.
Polygonal classification: Types I, III-IV (Lugli)
Attribution: The polygonal walls are generally attributed to the Aequi.
