Location: Amelia, Umbria (Italy) — 42.5671 N, 12.4989 E

Dating: 7th-4th centuries BC

Characteristics: Mostly intact outer circuit of polygonal walls with tight joinery. The site is characterized by varying sections of stonework quality from massive blocks (pre-Roman) to more quadrangular polygonal stonework (Roman). Within the city walls, one can also find smaller sections of megalithic stonework of Lugli’s I-II styles.

Polygonal classification: Types I-III (Lugli)

Attribution: It is most often attributed to Italic peoples (Umbrian) of the region with later Roman modifications and refurbishment.

  • Porta Romana and continuation of polygonal walls along Via del Mattatoio and Via Nocicchia
  • Section of polygonal wall outside Chiesa di Michele Arcangelo
